Amy Richards

Independent Educational Consultant (Day School and Boarding School)

Amy joins VJB with a 35+ year career in independent schools. Amy has worked in and led a variety of very different schools: boarding, urban, suburban, day, coed and single-sex. Three decades of that work also involved helping admissions offices identify, recruit, admit and on-board new students.

Amy was the Interim Rector (Head of School) for St. Paul’s School (NH) for the 2018 – 2019 school year. She was Head of School at Crystal Springs Uplands School for 14 years (CA). Amy also served as Dean of Students at Riverdale Country School (NYC), and then as the Head of the Upper School at The Spence School (NYC). She was a member of the mathematics faculty at St. Paul’s from 1984 to 1994 where she first found her passion for teaching students

Through her experience  serving as a leadership search consultant, Amy has a unparallelled understanding of East and West Coast private schools and is well positioned to provide a family with insights and nuances about their child and the right school fit.

She is a member of the Headmasters Association, on the board of Oregon Episcopal School and the Marylhurst School (both in Oregon), and she continues to serve as a mathematics tutor. She is a former member of the board of Open School (OR), the Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School (CA), the Sea Crest School (CA), the California Teachers Development Collaborative and the California Association of Independent Schools’ Board of Standards for Secondary Schools. Amy earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of New Hampshire in science and mathematics.

Amy has learned that what she values most about the educational landscape is working with students throughout their educational journey and seeing them succeed in the right academic environment.
